In 2004 the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships (DATSIP) approached the Cloncurry Community to set up a Community Justice Group to address local justice related issues.

The community agreed and set up the Cloncurry Justice Association Inc. which was incorporated in 2005. The Association aimed to provide justice related services in Cloncurry.

There is a membership fee of $5 per year however as a not-for-profit Association, all excess funds are reinvested into the Association.

The Cloncurry Justice Group was given recognition with an initial funding of $22,665 received in June 2005 from the Indigenous Coordination Centre (ICC) under Women’s Issues.

Since then, it has secured funding from the Department of Justice and Attorney General (DJAG), the Department of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Policy (DATSIP), and has wages contributed by the Western Queensland CDEP.

Funding to date has permitted the Cloncurry Justice Group to establish premises in the local community giving community members a point of reference.

It has also supported the launch of various justice related projects such as monthly court attendance, monthly men’s and women’s groups, domestic violence support, and most recently a Men’s Healing Shed.

We look forward to continuous development of the Association and seek support from the community.
